Summary

Qualified at Guy's Hospital, London. Then after being a member of staff at Guy's Hospital went onto the staff at the Hospital for Sick Children at Great Ormond Street, London and at the Institute of Child Health at University of London.  During this time interest in medical research led to becoming a research orientated experimental pathologist essentially a fully committed research clinical scientist  .

Subsequently appointed Senior Clinical Scientist / Hospital Medical Consultant Pathologist in full time multidisciplinary, essentially experimental pathological, medical research, to the Medical Research Council. This was as Divisional Director at their Clinical Research Centre, Northwick Park Hospital, Harrow.

Later returned to general medicine. Here after and having assessed disability and work potential for the DSS/Benefits Agency, became very interested in applying scientific methods in medico-legal medicine. In particular helped define the limits of disability using a scientific based approach has lead to a special interest in investigating complex cases of catastrophic injury. Equally adopting a clinical scientific approach has aided assessment of alleged clinical negligence,

 Subsequently formed the Independent Medical Assessment Service [IMAS] to provide a comprehensive medico-legal service to the legal profession. At this time started to teach medico-legal medicine at Wolverhampton University. At the same time was Consultant in Disability Assessment to the Tribunal Services.

Currently: Director of Independent Medical Assessment Service,  and Professor of Medical Law at Wolverhampton University.
