Disability Discrimination Questionnaires [DLQs] are either:

  1.     Specific - for defined situations e.g. heart problem, or

  2.     General - when the situation is less well defined e.g. generalised disability, such as multiple sclerosis.

 Specific DLQs:

Ö Neck / Shoulder DLQ for cervical spondylosis, whiplash injuries, frozen shoulder etc.

Ö Back DLQ where a back problem causes disability

Ö Hand / Arm DLQ for any hand or arm associated disability from amputation to repetitive strain disorder

Ö Leg / Foot DLQ for obvious injuries but also where medical conditions, such as poor blood supply, can cause problems in the legs or feet

Ö Major Mental Problem DLQ for a severe mental problem e.g. severe head injury or a psychosis such as schizophrenia

Ö Stress / Anxiety DLQ used for less severe mental cases where anxiety / stress dominate the clinical picture. Minor cases of controlled depression would be in this group as would post traumatic stress disorder

Ö Abdominal Problem DLQ where the primary disability relates to the abdomen              

Ö Heart Problem DLQ covering all forms of cardiac disability e.g. coronary heart disease

Ö Chest / Respiratory Problem DLQ useful in both primary and occupation-related lung disorders        

Ö Sight Problem DLQ for all of the conditions that lead to poor sight

Ö Hearing Problem DLQ for cases disabled by poor hearing.

General DLQs

Ö Single Problem DLQ when the site and/or nature of a single problem has not been defined

Ö Multiple Problems DLQ for when there are multiple problems e.g. severe road traffic accident with several injuries or in multiple allergies                        

Ö Generalised Disability DLQ is useful in cases such as anaemia, or chronic fatigue syndrome, where the effect of the condition is general and affecting a wide range of activities.

 

DLQuestionnaires offer many advantages. Especially in saving time and therefore the cost of the medico-legal assessment. In the case of the DLQs the aim is to investigate compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) and in this context whether the:

The DLQs are not only used with respect to Disability Discrimination they are also useful in any situation where it is important to define the subject’s disability.
